It is our great pleasure to invite you to the opening of two related exhibitions entitled “Textiles of Resistance: Women’s Voices” and “The Last Witnesses” which will take place at Principij Gallery, Pod Voltun 4, Rijeka, on Saturday, 14 September 2019 at 12:00.

The photo-documentary exhibition “The Last Witnesses” is dedicated to the memory of internment in Italian fascist concentration camps. The exhibition is a joint project of journalist Saša Petejan, photographer Manca Juvan and historian Dr. Urška Strle. The deadliest among the hundreds of camps that fascist Italy established in the territories of present-day Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Ethiopia, Croatia, Italy, Macedonia and Serbia, was in Kampor on the island of Rab. The exhibition is part of a larger remembrance project Guardians of the spoon.

The exhibition “Textiles of Resistance: Women’s Voices” will feature works from the international collection “Conflict textiles” consisting of hundreds of textiles from South America and other parts of the world, especially those affected by armed conflict. The exhibition is curated by Roberta Bacic. Exhibition is organized by Documenta and partners. Most of the works in the collection are textiles called arpilleras, mainly made by women in order to expose human rights violations and repression during the Pinochet dictatorship (1973 to 1990). Works from Argentina, Chile, Germany and England will be exhibited in Rijeka.

The exhibitions will be open from 14 to 30 September, and will offer a program of workshops and guided tours.
