World press photo, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past invite you to the opening of a travelling exhibition SEE New Perspectives: From Balkan Photographers, Karas gallery, Praška 4, Zagreb, on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 7pm.

Speakers at the opening of the exhibition include: Vesna Kesić, reporter and activist, Andrei Pungovschi, Romanian photographer, author of a photograph featuring on the poster for the exhibition SEE New Perspectives in Zagreb, Verena Heinzel, Robert Bosch Stiftung, Joyce Lagerweij, World Press Photo and Eugen Jakovčić, Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past.

The SEE New Perspectives: from Balkan Photographers exhibition presents the work of fifteen talented photographers from Southeastern Europe. They were selected to take part in a master class for professional photographers, organized by World Press Photo and Robert Bosch Stiftung in 2010. After the master class, they were asked to produce photo essays covering current issues in their region. The aim was to show the new local and regional realities and to inspire “new perspectives” of Southeastern Europe. As people coming from this region, the photographers worked within several subcultures in order to convey knew knowledge and foster new thoughts on the space where stereotypes are an every-day occurrence.

The exhibition is also an occasion for some other events which Documenta, together with our partners, is organizing in May 2013, about which you can read in more detail in the program of accompanying events. From this program, we would like to single out and invite you to:

Discussion – Artists’ contribution to trust-building, which will take place on Friday, May 10, 2013, Karas gallery, starting at 7pm. Moderator of the discussion will be Sandra Vitaljić, lecturer at the Academy of Theatre Art in Zagreb, while the speakers include Ana Opalić, Croatia, Armend Nimanni, Kosovo, and Danko Stjepanović, Croatia.
