Call for participants: Zagreb, Croatia | 05 – 16 September 2021

Would you like to know more about the personal stories of fighters for human rights, courageous feminists and brave activists?

Are you interested in contemporary history and culture of remembrance and would like to discuss these topics with a group of international young people?

Are you a creative person or are you passionate about art, illustration, and graphics?

Then you are the perfect candidate for this Summer School!

What is the project about?

Biographies of resistance” wants to discuss the topic of underrepresentation of marginalized groups (women, religious and national minorities, LGBTQ+, refugees, and migrants) in formal education, historical narratives, and public space. The marginalization of these groups in European remembrance suggests that they aren’t relevant and don’t deserve to be included in the narrations about our common past. In this Summer School, we want to oppose this interpretation and consider the important role they have covered in 20th-century history.

Until today, history has been written mostly by privileged classes that ignored the perspectives of marginalized groups, making them invisible. In our contemporary society that is becoming more multicultural and diverse, we believe that it is needed to offer a different model of interpretation of contemporary history to include also categories that have been mostly ignored by historiography and formal education.

Together with other young people from Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Greece, Serbia, and Spain, you will have the chance to discuss these topics, debate together and spend a great time in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. You will also have the opportunity to express your creativity and imagination in the creative workshops and prepare the materials for the exhibition we will organize and open together.
