Witches’ Literature in Croatia – Contemporary Feminist Writings
Join us for a creative reading circle to discover Eastern-European Witches’ Literature.

In 1992, Croatian authors and journalists Jelena Lovrić, Rada Iveković, Slavenka Drakulić, Vesna Kesić and Dubravka Ugrešić were labelled as ‘witches’ for taking a political stance. The labelling of women as ‘witches’ indeed has a long history in Croatia and beyond. Yet, contemporary (feminist) artwork challenges this attribution in interesting ways.
Within a three day’s reading circle, we will discover writings of these women who have been labelled as ‘witches’. The reading will be chosen by the group from a pre-selection. Each session will be opened by a short presentation of a related topic through the moderator. Thereafter, participants will have the opportunity to exchange their views on the chosen texts with the group in a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
